Are MDHearing hearing aids good? Bette read our this real user review to know the performance and sound quality of this hearing device.
Buy This DeviceMDHearing's VOLT hearing aids only cost $299.98, which is already a good deal. For this particular model, it already comes with dual microphones and is capable of reducing noise so the sounds that you will be able to hear are clear and crisp even in more challenging environments. The long battery life can last for a whole day but the only minor downside is that its charging port is still the micro USB version and not the type C. Overall, it's already quite a steal not just for its price, but also for its features.
There were a number of things that we liked from this MDHearing product model and they are listed below:
Better audio sound quality: The device was able to further amplify the sounds and the quality was greatly improved.
Lifetime hearing professional support: You'll be able to enjoy unlimited support from their in-house team of audiologists and hearing specialists.
Above average battery life: A full charge can get the device running for around 20 hours.
Supports financing programs: They offer financing options through Affirm with rates starting at 0% APR.
In testing, we also found a few disadvantages from this device which you should be aware of:
One color only: The device is only available in beige and there are no other color options.
Still uses micro USB port: It may not be a big deal, but if most of your devices are already using the USB type C cables, then you might find it a little annoying to find the original cable to charge this hearing aid since its port is still using micro USB.
No Bluetooth connection: Since this wireless feature is not available, it cannot be paired with mobile devices or connected to the MDHearing app.
Experience might not be effective for some users: Even if it has dual microphones and smart filtering features, it's possible that some users won't be able to enjoy normal restoration of their hearing.
MDHearing is an American company that manufactures a range of affordable and high-quality hearing aids, most of which are designed to assist people who have mild to moderate hearing loss. In comparison with their competitors, their devices are FDA-registered, which means that they were able to meet federal standards.
This particular hearing aid model is only available in beige color but the good thing about this particular tone is that it's a neutral one so it can match most skin tones.
Hearing Aid | Colors |
---|---|
MDHearing VOLT | Beige |
Jabra Enhance Plus | Beige Gold, Dark Grey |
Horizon AX by Hear.com | Beige, Black, Silver, Sandy Brown |
Audicus Wave | Beige, Black, Grey, Silver |
Audien Atom Pro | Beige |
Eargo Neo HiFi | Black |
Audious Rechargeable & Invisible Hearing Aid | Blue (Left Ear) and Red (Right Ear) |
Since this is the behind-the-ear (BTE) type, it sits behind the ear and cannot be completely hidden. It's not that heavy and only weighs 0.5 kg and the length is just 3.2cm. It's slightly bigger than the other models but the difference is just minimal.
Rather than using buttons for adjusting the volume, this one has a volume dial. It's a little old-fashioned but still works for quick adjustments.
It's important to remember that the VOLT doesn't have any remote control included in the package. That means the volume dial is the only the only way to control it physically, which is why it's essential to keep them protected and free from dusts or earwax.
Before we begin...
You need to be aware that the sound quality of any hearing aid greatly depends on several factors, such as your hearing loss conditon and the environment where you're at. Based on the several tests that we did, the VOLT was capable of of filtering out the noise and has significantly improved the understandability of speech and sounds on most conditions.
Each earbud has dual microphones and they work together to effectively separate the speech from the noise, giving its user the ability to focus on the voices or sounds they want to hear. Majority of the users who participated in our device testing reported improved listening comprehension and speech recognition, and these were people who have mild to moderately severe hearing loss.
We can't emaphasize this enough:
Using a hearing aid doesn't guarantee that you will be able to experience normal hearing restoration as it would be dependent on the degree of your hearing loss.
Included in the package is a charging case that can be easily carried since it's very light and compact. The only thing that we didn't like is that it's only a basic charger, which means it doesn't have any internal rechargeable batteries. In addition, it still uses a micro USB connector rather than the type C version.
Why is this important?
Over the past few years, USB-C has been widely adapted in most devices and it would have been more convenient to have your hearing aid use the same type of port so you won't have to bring with you a separate cable.
As for the battery life, MDHearing claims that the VOLT model can last for 20+ hours on one full charge. We evaluated its actual performance for over a week and on average, we were able to use it for around 19 to 20 hours.
In comparison...
The VOLT's battery life is above average and is a lot longer than the Jabra Enhance Plus, which only lasts for 12 hours. It's also superior to the Eargo Neo HiFi, which can operate for a maximum of 16 hours.
Note: this comparison with the other 2 hearing aid products are based on their single full charges and it does not include the extra batterly life that comes from their charging cases which have internal rechargeable batteries.
Hearing Aid | 1 Full Charge | With Charging Case |
---|---|---|
MD Hearing VOLT | Up to 20 hours | N/A |
Jabra Enhance Plus | Up to 12 hours | Up to 30 hours |
Horizon AX by Hear.com | Up to 28 hours | N/A |
Audicus Wave | Up to 18 hours | N/A |
Audien Atom Pro | Up to 24 hours | Up to 4 days |
Eargo Neo HiFi | Up to 16 hours | Up to 7 days |
Audious Rechargeable & Invisible Hearing Aid | Up to 2 days | N/A |
It's important to remember: The battery life of your device will depend on various factors such as usage, volume level, and other settings. If you're using it for phone calls and streaming music, you'll likely see shorter battery life compared to using it just for phone call so it's a good idea to monitor your usage and adjust the settings accordingly to ensure that you're getting the most out of your earbuds.
There's an MDHearing app that can be installed on Android and iOS devices. Unfortunately, it does not support the VOLT model because this particular devices doesn't have Bluetooth capability.
That means there are no possible ways to pair this hearing aid with any other device or app since it doesn't have the required connectivity feature.
For starters…
MDHearing's website has a detailed FAQ page so might want to check this out first prior to contacting their support team as this section might have the answers that you're looking for.
But if you still prefer to communicate with their agents, then you can reach them via any of these methods:
So how was it?
Phone support was okay although you need to take note that it's not available 24/7. Their lines are open on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (CST).
Email support was available at any time of the day so if you plan to send them an email at night, then you might just get a response in just a few minutes or hours.
Overall, our customer service experience was great. It would have been better though if they added a 24/7 live chat feature on their website so we could have more options.
